Reviews
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ80GN Compact Zoom Digital Camera - Silver is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent travel camera with interesting specifications. I use this camera in my travels, the great things about it is that you can photograph in .raw format and process images afterwards. The zoom is really useful/versatile and lets you capture most subjects outdoors. I haven't tried the camera in low-light or indoors very much as I know it is not as strong in those areas. If you are looking for a very compact camera to replace your DSLR for travelling this can be a good option. There can be some noise/bluryness in the images depending on ISO mainly so image quality is not always great, but it produces good results in daylight situations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great little camera. I agree with "Dicky" from NSW. The secret to getting the best out of this little camera is to set the noise reduction (N/R) in the menu to its lowest level (-5) The resolution throughout the zooming range is then very good. The inclusion of an EVF is also a great idea when bright sunlight makes the rear monitor harder to see. This feature is missing from most other small cameras of this type. I find the TZ-80 a great companion to my FZ-1000. The joint association with Leica makes a great team. All in all a great job Panasonic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still love the Lumix range for sheer versatility Great extra camera to carry in addition to SLR on wildlife trips, great selection of settings and can be as easy or complex as you chose. Still have an issue with the iris on the lens as this is very delicate and easy to damage, thus have to take extra care and can't just throw in my pocket which I'd like to do, as dust gets in easily. Overall still love the Lumix range and have kept my TZ30 for rougher days out. Love the sheer flexibility of this in a compact format, is a tad heavy but 4K video and the ability to extract stills a real plus for wildlife photography, how else do you catch a grass snake with its tongue out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little compact I've been out of photography for quite a while and I wanted a camera that was capable of point and shoot as well as manual if I felt the need to take photography more serious againl, but I thought this would be a good starter compact, up to now I haven't been disappointed, I chose Panasonic because being old school I wanted a viewfinder of which I haven't felt the need to use up to yet I suppose that maybe different on a sunny day. I do a lot of walking with my dogs and I've found this a great little camera to slip in my pocket I've also took some very good close ups of my dogs, all though I've only had my TZ 80 a couple of months I'm quite impressed with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Than Expected! I read many reviews of this camera before I purchased, with many reviews suggesting image quality was less than stellar. After getting the camera in my hands I was pleasantly surprised! I think the reason behind the reports of poor image quality is largely due to Panasonic's heavy handed use of Noise Reduction for in camera JPEG processing. I Found that by setting the Noise Reduction to the lowest value via the "Picture Style" (custom JPEG) feature that image quality is greatly increased. The Auto Focus system is excellent as is the Manual focus with Peaking and Picture in Picture. The camera also has full manual controls and RAW capture, your getting a lot of camera for your money! ISO Performance is decent with pictures being usable up to ISO 1600, I think for a camera in this class the low light performance is actually quite good. Has lots of great features, Many you would expect to see on much higher end equipment. You really do have all the tools onboard to get the best from the hardware! All in all a fantastic little travel camera capable of capturing some nice detailed photos, great value for money and a lot better than many reviewers seem to let on. Don't forget to buy a case to protect the camera, I use and recommend the Lowepro Tahoe 25 II. Also make sure you use fast SD cards for best performance, I like Sandisc Extreme and Extreme Pro.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent all round camera. Great all round camera. Excellent for travel. (Used on a cruise to through the Suez canal/ Jordan/ Abu Dabai. No issues!) Loads of modes/ features. Creates some stunning images under the right conditions. Surprised by the quality of the zoom, when used to identify distant objects. i.e. birds. (Using the 30x zoom, then 4x magnification of the image on the screen.) Some issues with the touch screen when in use. i.e. focusing modes changing. Not as snappy as my digital SLR, but not the same price! Would recommend obtaining a printed manual, ( 400 pages!) to access all the features. Overall, I would recommend the camera, based on my ownership over the last 10 months, if you have the patience to explore all the features.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wouldn't buy this again. Easy to carry and starts up quickly I imagined that Leica would only put their name to a good lens but the lens is very soft at the outer half of the magnification range. I took a series of test shots of the same scene at all the iso settings, noise was obvious at 400 and at higher values the images were useless, fringing was also obvious. With the physically long and optically slow lens and poor iso performance it is often difficult to get a high enough shutter speed to give sharp handheld images in light conditions that my previous canon compact copied with. L The camera doesn't cope well with scenes with a high dynamic range, shadows seem ok but highlights are blown out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like the camera Impressed by the features of this camera, but I am concerned about the longevity of the zoom lense as other reviews state that dust or debris has gotten into the lease itself and effected picture quality or zoom functionality Auto mode is great, can automatically choose a scene mode for you or have full control in manual mode. 4k is good and 4k photo is a neat feature to have at 40fps
