Reviews
Sony HDRCX405 Handycam Full HD Camcorder is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Be cautious with the reviews! I feel I have been cheated by the reviews - the sound is rubbish and some say it's brilliant! Such a lie. I used it to interview people and you have to max the TV/PC volume to hear it, the camcorder is generally ok and easy to use, but this is a massive let down. And you can't even attached a mic. If you want it for anything closeup, then this is a winner. I bought this because it can film for a longer period than my max of 30 minute canon camera, but if you 'pause' enough it will be fine - I wish I used my camera instead and certainly will do so in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from small but powerful Having had a high quality camcorder for some years I decided I wanted one that recorded to a memory card rather than mini tapes. I must admit that I thought it would be as simple as putting the card in a card reader as I do with my DSLR camera. I was a little disturbed at having to use a Sony site to download but after a short session of familiarisation I found it quite easy. The quality of the pictures and sound is very good and the handycam fits very easily into a pocket. With a little more time and practice I believe I will really enjoy my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice compact camera Bought this for a recent holiday and it was very good. It is very light and compact and very easy to use. As soon as you open the side cover the camera starts up and closes down when you close it. Very simple to use and not as complicated as our previous one. The only downside is that you have to manually open and close the lense cover and it is easy to forget when you have finished filming and it would be easy to damage the lense. Also it would be handy to have some kind of strap on it and we had to buy a case for it too. However I suppose that would be normal for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive Performance I spent a long time researching - I'm talking months - before deciding which handycam to buy. I was looking for a quality high definition performance within my tight budget. And I wanted the option of manual control over certain camera settings such as shutter, aperture, focus and white balance to give me the freedom to capture specific creative results outside the range of the auto point-and-shoot and in-built scene selection features. I chose the Sony CX405 because its specification gives me everything I want, including the means of easily capturing the action in MP4 format for display on the Internet. For me, image performance is paramount. A camera can have all the features in the world but if the final on-screen image is lacking in sharpness, definition, or realistic colour rendering it would be a complete non-starter. At the time of writing this, I've completed my initial tests with the CX405 using a selection of the wide range of video resolution settings it offers and I have to say the Zeiss Tessar lens and Sony's Exmor R CMOS sensor deliver an image clarity which is, to say the least, outstandingly good. The CX405 records primarily in the .m2ts format which isn't likely to be properly understood by any existing movie software you have, so I strongly recommend you download Sony's free Play Memories Home software which handles .m2ts video files with ease and allows you to use them in a variety of ways. Although the CX405 will record in MP4 format if you wish using its dual-record facility, the Play Memories Home software also provides the means of easily converting the default high quality .m2ts format files into MP4 format - which is useful if you've chosen to shoot only in the .m2ts format and later decide you'd like the clip in MP4 format for use on the Internet. It also means you can import the MP4 file into your existing movie software and manipulate it and its sound track in any way you wish. In short, in my experience the CX405 produces great results with the fully auto point-and-shoot setting and provides the means of getting really creative using the optional manual controls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use CX405 .I bought this for a holiday we had planned and I am so pleased I did. It was so easy to use and after a few practices I soon found any problems were easy to solve. Light and compact it was great to handle and manoeuvre giving great results. I have never had such good footage of our grandchildren, all the family in fact, which, will be enjoyed by our grandchildren when they film their own family, hopefully. I use it every month to show how the children are growing and maturing. It's wonderful for us an excellent purchace.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Quality Movies I have had this device for a month now. I bought it to take on a trip to New Zealand and Fiji for Christmas so I have spent lots of time learning how to get the best from it. In a nutshell, it is simple to use and the quality of the movies and the still photos is second to none. If I were forced to make a criticism, I would say that it suffers from a grainy quality if the light levels are too low. What camera doesn't? ,
