Why change this product?
I was very upset when I went to restock on ink yesterday. For the life of me I can't figure out why HP would think it would be good customer service to REDUCE the size of the cartridge so I have to buy more to accomplish the same thing. Not cool, not very green and just plain silly.
I have been an HP customer/advocate/fan for a very long time, but that is coming to an end. I have been frustrated with the expense of your inks for a while and even more frustrated by the blatant exaggeration of pages per cartridge possible. The ONLY way I'd get approx. 800 pages out of a black XL cartridge is if each page had 1 or 2 lines of text.
This will most likely be my last HP printer. I cannot afford to keep up with your ink prices.

Doesn't Last Very Long
The regular cartridges won't even make it through one of my husband's 8 week classes for his MBA. And keep in mind that most of what he needs to read is in a text book or on the iPad - so we don't do as much printing now as I did when I was in my undergrad.
The XL cartridges will last through that class - and no further. We're not printing pictures here - and we're not printing often. The cartridges on our last printer made it most of the way through printing all the pictures for one baby book.
Time to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to make these cartidges last longer - or cost less - withouth skimping on print quality.

Cartridges go so quickly
While these cartridges do an excellent job, it certainly would be great if they didn't have to be changed so often. I'd be willing to pay more more cartridges that last much longer. It's such a pain to have to continue to replace them. Plus, they are so expensive. By having to buy these cartridges all the time, you end up paying for the printer over and over again. Not good.

564 ink
We used to have another HP printer that got much much more printing with the ink. I did full color calendars on one cartridge now I am lucky to get a few pages. It is ridiculous! I have a business and it cost more to print my work than I get paid. D O N O T B U Y PRINTER THAT TAKES
5 6 4 INK CARTRIGES. I am sure that this will lead many people seeking real printing companies THAT CAN DO THE WORK FOR US. THIS PRINTER WILL PUT HOME PRINTING OUT OF BUSINESS. IT IS JUST NOT WORTH THE COST. D O N O T B U Y T H I S P R I N T E R. I WILL HAVE TO TAKE A BUSNESS LOSE PARTLY BECAUSE OF THIS PRINTER COST.

HP: PLEASE bring back the large black cartridge!!!
The cost and hassle of replacing these black cartridges has driven me to write my first ever online product review. I have ALWAYS bought HP printers. However, after my experience with the Photosmart Premium 309 (the most ink-thirsty printer I've ever encountered), coupled with HP's recent downsizing of the black XL cartridge (the most eggregiously wrong product change I've ever enountered), I have decided that unless HP admits its error and brings back the LARGER sized black 564XL, I will not buy another HP printer.
As someone who has bought at least 20 HP printers over the years, I wonder if HP will see fit to address these concerns and make the necessary changes (i.e. find some way of increasing the yield or decreasing the price of these cartridges, or at the very least bring back the larger black XL). If HP does this, I will be its most vocal champion.

Bring Back the Mega Cartridge
The biggest pain with HP ink, is changing cartridges. The 564 black is rated at 250 pages. The old Mega cartridge black 564xl was rated at 800 pages. The new 564xl black is rated at 550 pages. Sure, the cost on the new one is proportionally priced, but, that's not the point. Bring back the mega cartridge for the people who want it. Call it the 564XXL. At least, give people the choice.

Cheaper 564XL
The new version of the 564XL is lower cost, but has lower capacity. I strongly dislike less capacity and wish the old cartridge was still available. Too bad the name was not changed from 564XL to 564ML. This is a good example of less is less.

No idea where HP gets their page estimates
Like most everyone else, I found this thing eats through ink, even on the fast draft version. No way in the world this printed 500 pages. If it was 50, I'd be lucky. The quality is great, sure, but there is no way I'll ever buy another HP printer unless they fix this problem. Sadly, I know a business owner who just throws the printer out every time it runs out of ink because it's cheaper to buy a new one than buy new cartridges. Terrible for the environment, but let's you know something is very off about this product.
