Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent camera with one downfall Pretty good camera, not sure if true 1080p but still nice quality video. Motion detection has a lag of around 5 seconds until the alert comes through to phone, have heard this is fixed with a arlo hub. Animal detection works fine, spotlight is nice and bright and can be disabled if required. Siren isn't the loudest but can definitely be heard. The only downside I can see and it's quite a big security concern, is that the sync button is easily pressable (which interrupts the cameras motion detection, recording etc) if you can reach the camera so it needs to be well out of reach of intruders.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very inconsistent. I bought this product 3 months ago and am sorry I did. On numerous occasions the camera will not pick up the arrival of a person but will when they leave. The camera did not acknowledge my arrival two days ago and last night recorded me leaving the house but not when I returned after a few minutes. Obviously not sure when it has not picked up someone coming and going. We purchased the camera so we could keep an eye on our property. We are not there all the time but a couple of out children call in regularly for various reasons. I am sorry I purchased the camera in the first place and will not be wasting more money on an ongoing basis.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Satisfied - but only just we purchased the Arlo products as they had great reviews, but I have to say friends have a different brand and appear to have a far better outcome. The night vision option doesn't actually provide any better view than the normal vision option once the sun goes down. There is a lag (1-2 minutes) whereas other products seem to operate in realtime. The setup functions for motion detection doesn't seem to work effectively. We receive constant notifications for movement (vehicle street traffic) which is outside the range of the configured range, but sketchy results with people and vehicle movements within the target area.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute Rubbish I have been a long term user of Arlo products.. In the last year or so I have added to my over 20 cameras at 2 locations. I have a mixture of Arlo Go's, Arlo Pro 2's and I also invested in some Arlo Essentials as I want to progressively replace the Go's and Pro's. Much to my horror after a firmware update that was pushed out to the Essentials by Arlo my 8 Essentials were bricked. Support has been nothing but obstructionist and clearly has been told to stick to a script of denying any responsibility. I see the guidelines for writing this review don't allow me to talk about support so this review will not be published. Anyway in a nutshell do not buy Arlo cameras they're a total waste of money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Constant sinc issues, poor battery The batter is marketed to last upto approximately 6 months. My battery is constantly only getting upto 2 weeks life. I have re adjusted settings so that the camera is less sensitive, reduced video quality and smaller activity zones. I can still watch the battery percentage drain down. Every time I need to re charge my device, for some reason it stops sincing with my arlo app. In order to re connect i have to forget the device and go through the sinc process again from the beginning. Both camera and arlo app have the latest update. Now my camera has not recorded anything for 2 days. When it was working correctly it was good. Also, the alarm siren that has a warning before sounding as its 'very loud'. You can barely hear it.

The quality is excellent, but the sensitivity of movement is just too high and the camera was recording every blow of wind all day long, I’d end up with 50 recordings a day and a battery that would only last two weeks. I tried changing the motion sensitivity but a) it didn’t make a difference and b) it would reset the sensitivity itself every single day and not stay at the setting I put it on. The live recording is also delayed long enough to defeat the purpose of being live

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product but no storage without an Arlo hub. This is a great value camera if you already have an Arlo hub. Without the hub you can only view events happening in real-time and not able to back up incidents unless you pay for an Arlo storage plan. I have an Arlo hub so it isn't an issue for me. Battery life so far is great and looks like it will last the advertised 6 months between charging and maybe even more. I added this camera for our front door as it has a built-in spotlight which works well. The Arlo app is fine but I choose to use the Apple Home app which is great for what we need.

How much is the monthly subscription in NZ after the 3 month trial period? Also, does this subscription cover both camera's, so that I can look back at recordings from either camera?

The subscription on the Arlo app charges in USD dollars, it is usually $9.99 per camera, however, you don't have to fully subscribe to the app if you don't want to pay for it you can still use the app, you will be limited to some of the features. We recommend visiting or contacting your local Harvey Norman branch to look further into this with one of our specialist's so they can give you customized advice according to your wants and needs, along with recommendations. Please can the camera be used at a different country

Hi Vivi, thanks for your question. Yes this camera can be used and accessed over seas, this is not limited to the New Zealand boarders. As long as you have unlimited access to Wifi and are able to download the Arlo App this definitely can be used in a different country. Hope this helps!

how much is the subscription after the trial?

Once the 3 month trial is up it is USD $9.99 on the app, per camera, however, you can still access the app without having to pay, you will just be limited to some of the features of the Arlo app and will still be able to use it after the trial. How do you turn the spotlight off

Hi Sugar. Thanks for your question. You will need to go into the Arlo App. Tap or click the play button on the video feed of a compatible Arlo camera. Tap or click the spotlight icon . To adjust the brightness of the spotlight, tap and hold or click and hold the spotlight icon and adjust the slider to your preferred brightness. To turn off the light, tap or click the spotlight icon again

Do these cameras work as is or do I need to purchase an extra "hub" type thing for it to connect to?

Hi Tommo, thanks for a great question. Yes, the cameras come with a 3-month Arlo Smart trial included, allowing you to watch live feed, and access video recordings while away from home. After the trial is done, you will only be able to access live video, and receive basic notifications. You will require either a subscription plan, or a hub, in order to access recordings while away from home, back-up videos to the cloud, or use additional smart features. Hope this helps.

Hi Benn, thanks for your question. Unfortunately not. Continuous video recording (CVR) is an optional feature available on Arlo Ultra, Pro 2, Q and QPlus, and Baby cameras and requires cameras to be powered via AC cable, and an Arlo CVR subscription plan for each camera. Hope this helps. Note: Arlo doesn’t currently support downloading CVR videos; you can only watch CVR videos from the cloud.
