How it works

60cm Pure 4 Zone Induction Cooktop from AEG, featuring Optizone, DirekTouch and Öko Timer technologies and finished in premium black ceramic glass.

AutoMax cooking function provides fantastic automatic zone control. After you have selected the AutoMax function, it will bring the zone up to the boil and will then reduce it to your pre-selected power level for the remainder of the cooking time.

Öko Timer
The Öko Timer is an intelligent way for you to use your resources more efficiently. When you pre-set the cooking time on the cooktop, the timer works out precisely when to switch off in order to finish cooking the dish using the cooktops residual heat. The result? The same high quality food for lower energy bills.

DirekTouch™ system
Gives you instant access to the hobs controls and immediate control to select the precise level you need. All at the touch of a finger.

Stop + Go
The Stop+Go function gives you even greater control while cooking. When you suddenly need to interrupt your cooking, simply activate Stop+Go, and the function will switch all of the active zones to keep warm. When you are ready, touch the Stop+Go button again and all the zones return to their previous settings.

AEG 60cm OptiZone Induction Cooktop is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent induction Cooktop!!!! I purchased this Cooktop 3 months ago. Having had a faulty ceramic Cooktop & needing to replace it, I researched all the avaliable replacement options. After ensuring my existing cookware was in fact for all cooktops, induction included, I researched the difference between induction & ceramic cooktops & decided that whilst the induction Cooktop does in fact draw a lot more power than the ceramic cooktops, the cooking time is considerably reduced because the pans on the induction cooktop heat up in a mere fraction of the time compared to the ceramic Cooktop & the heating is far more even accross the cooking surface, compared to ceramic cooktop elements. With the induction cooktop the base of the pot becomes the heating element so cooking time is far reduced compared to the ceramic cooktops. As with all new appliances, learning how they work does take some time to learn. The functions on this particular AEG Induction Cooktop are everything you could desire & want for and more ! I am highly impressed with this Cooktop, I've found the bridging function on both the left & right side, to be excellent for extra large cooking pots, the timer function is excellent as is the AEG specialist feature that calculates the required cooking time with residual heat remaining in the heat of the pot itself, it switches off the power & allows the residual heat to complete the cooking of your food - which means you use less power. Whilst this AEG Cooktop is advertised and promoted as only heating up the cooking pot & you can touch the Cooktop surface near the pot & they state there is limited heat & the Cooktop can be touched - this is only true in the initial first minute or so when the pot initially heats up, once the cooking process has been functioning for more than a few minutes, the actual Cooktop does heat up considerably, because the heat from the cooking pot warms the induction glass top itself. So when using several elements at once during cooking a normal meal, the Cooktop glass does heat up considerably & I would not reccomend touch the glass cook top during the cooking cycle because the glass is hot ! In saying this. The heat is created by the cooking pot warming up as the induction cooking function turns your pot into the element. So once you finish cooking & remove your pot, the glass top cools much quicker than a standard ceramic top because the heat comes from the pot itself not heating coils under the glass top in the case of ceramic cook tops. The cooling time with be reduced by approximately 2/3 and the glass top while hot, within a few minutes the heat is reduced & the top would not be hot enough to cause injury- compared to a ceramic Cooktop which remains seriously hot for some time & can cause injury. I timed one of my pots containing 1 litre of water on my old ceramic Cooktop and it took over 6 mins to reach a full boil. Compared with the same pot on my new AEG induction cooktop took only 2mins to reach a full rumbling water aggressively boil. I was completely amazed at how little time it took ! With having 14 different heat setting. Although the individual dials go from 0 - 14, there is an additional 'keep warm' setting & a power boost setting to rapidly raise the heat at start up or give a power burst during cooking, so there's more than 14 heat settings. The power boost function is great - but what they don't tell you is that rapid heat like this power boost is not actually any good for your pots & excessively high cooking tempurature can actually damage your cookware ! I discovered this after contacting Scanpan about my pots suddenly developing little black spots across the bottom of the pot which didn't wash off. Scanpan advised that this occurred because the heat setting was far too high - that there potware is designed to be used on low to medium heat only - as per the manuals instructions - fortunately the little black spots can easily be removed with White Vinegar (from the supermarket) & a paper towel, with a small amount of rubbing with the white vinegar on a paper towel the spots easily are removed!!! - this tip also works with other marks on the inside bottom of your cookware too ! This is the same with all other induction cookware sold in NZ. If you use the instructions for use & care of your cookware, they all clearly state that the pots are to be used on a low to medium cooking heat, not excessively high heat. With this AGE Induction Cooktop, I've found that the heat settings 1-10 is equal to my previous ceramic Cooktop of 1-9 heat settings. The heat setting of 11-14 are extremely hot - so hot you really need to be in attendance the entire time or you risk burning your food, you certainly can't turn your back on the Cooktop when using the high temperatures- not even for a second ! Be aware that because of the fast heat up time & even heating accross your pan, your cooking times are reduced - if you are switching from a ceramic Cooktop, or you are doing a new build etc, remember that all new cookware takes time to become familiar with & you should allow time initially to learn how your Cooktop functions with your style of cooking. I honestly can not reccomend highly enough this AEG Induction Cooktop. It has simplified our family life, it's reduced the amount of cooking time significantly by about 20 minutes every meal, which allows for much more family time - which is awesome. Heck anything that reduces cooking time has to be a bonus right ! My daughter commented on how different our food has been looking, the vegetables when cooked are looking much brighter in colour & far more inviting because they look amazing - the colours are bright & inviting where as our old Cooktop took much longer to eveningly cook food & the colours were dull and bland. Even cooking meat has become not only simpler buy the meat cooks evenly accross the pan, no matter where the meat is placed in the pan. So it cooks eveningly, with and even browsing accross the full surface of the meat - not here and there uneveningly like our old Cooktop. What they don't tell you about the AEG Induction Cooktop, they only thing that wasn't pointed out at the time of sale, is that all Induction cooktops no later which brand, do make a noise while they are turned on & actually heating pots. There is a slight hum sound from the fans under the glass cooling the induction function & depending on the quality of your induction cooking pots, if they are not a solid one piece base, if they are layered or they have a centre slab, the actual induction function that turns your pots into the actual element, depending on the pot construction, there can be further sounds of clicking or a louder high pitched hum that occurred because of the base of your pots construction. I personally found that my cheap set of Hampton Mason induction pots I purchased from Briscoes work & are a lot quieter than my mother's very expensive Scanpan Induction cookware. So expensive induction pots may not be any better than a cheaper set at Briscoes or Farmers. The noise emitted when cooking depends of the actual construction of the induction cookware base - it's worth borrowing family or friends cookware to test out for yourself which cookware makes the least amount of noise on your new AEG induction cooktop. You may not need to spend as much as you initially think on buying your induction cookware set, it's worth trailing and testing before you invest in a set for your new AEG Induction Cooktop. We purchased our original Cooktop from Harvey Norman's & purchased the extended warranty option (which I highly reccomend, to cover your cookware longer than the factory Warranty. It made any issues that occurred simple, I simply phoned Harvey Norman's the store where I purchased it & they lodged the repair claim & arranged the repairer to come out - they did it all, it was simple & easy. I was so impressed with the after sales service that I returned to buy our replacement Cooktop as well. I con not reccomend Harvey Norman's Christchurch Northwood Super Centre & Tower Junction stores more highly. You honestly will not be disappointed in purchasing this AEG Induction Cooktop, you'll be amazed at how quick & simple meal times become & you'll actually enjoy cooking with this appliance ! With a full AEG 60 month manufacturers warranty included with your purchase, you simply can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive cooktop Only 3 weeks into ownership so I am wadding through all the features. So very quick to heat to high temperature or subtly to a simmer temperature.Very user friendly, especially for a first time induction user. Just 'disappears' into my black stone bench, and cleaning is so easy. I am still very careful about the glass edges and if there was an option of a thin s/s border surround I would think about it
