good shaver i guess
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So i have used these types of Phillips shavers before, this does nothing different or better. The motor i find quieter but that's pretty much it. Maybe it's just the shape of my face (which i would like to feel is normal) but it takes quite some time to get all the hair away from certain areas of my neck and below the ears. It claims to have "SkinIQ", i disagree. It claims to a "power adapt sensor", i certainly disagree with that also, at no point have i noticed any more or less power. Yes, it does give a very smooth shave, however, is it anything special?? not really. This is just my opinion.

Good shaver but...
Since my last, unfortunately, unsuccessful adventure with an electric shaver that completely disappointed me, this time I decided to give the Shaver series 5000 from Philips a chance. A shaver with a nice appearance, handy, comfortable to use and with a battery that allows you to use it several times on a single charge. The shaver does not irritate my skin like the previous one, it is easy to clean. Unfortunately, the Series 5000 does not shave as close as I would like and I have to finish shaving with a manual shaver.
So I'm still looking for a shaver that will allow me to get a close shave every time.

Gives a great close shave
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The shaver charges quite quickly up to full but having the added feature of a quick charge for one use is great for empty battery times! The battery itself does last through a good many shaves before needing to be recharged. One of the most striking thing for me is how quiet the shaver is in use and yet it does a great job of providing me with a very close shave without many passes. After use the shaver is very easy to clean of debris.
The only niggle I have with this shaver is the position of the trimmer, it makes using it on my face fiddly but it is great for use on other areas.

Another great Philips Shaver
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The four star overall rating it is probably unfair for this shaver (series 5000 Wet and Dry electric shaver S5588/30) because it performs five stars compared to my previous shavers, but i never give the max rate because, as this shaver its proof of, better it is always possible.
It is a pleasure to use it, from it's ergonomy (fits great in the hand) to the very good battery life, passing for the great advantage that it is using it for wet shaving like a regular blade and finishing with how gentle it is with skin leaving it very soft after shaving.
After all this said, i highly recommend !!

Great piece of kit
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There is nothing I could say bad about the S5000 as I've tried many different shavers as I have sensitive skin and found many left me red and dry and itchy. This razor left me smooth and soft and its easy cleaned as button to open it and its still attached to shaver and run it under water to clean it and side trimmer is nice and long so you can get into place others can't. I used mine as a wet shaver and in the shower as running water opens pours and making shaving easy, I also use it first thing in the morning and it leaves me smooth the whole day also charge last for ages 4 weeks in and still on my first charge and no sign of it slowing down.

Expected Quicker and Easier Shave
After owning a mains powered Philishave for 40 years (albeit only using it occasionally) I decided to treat myself for my 60th birthday to a modern cordless one. After charging it and switching it on I was surprised how slow the heads appear to rotate to the point I thought it needed further charging. I have been using it for 2 weeks now, the blades do not glide across my face during a dry shave and water or shaving gel needs to be applied to make it easier. Even then it seems to take forever to shave.

Recently purchased Philips shaver - disappointing
I've used Philips shavers for over 50 years but the Series 5000 Wet & Dry S5588/38 has been a disappointment. It is clumsy, heavy and does not give such a clean & comfortable shave as my previous Series 5000 Dry shaver. It was supplied without a plastic protective cap but I have just been e-mailed and offered one at an excessive price for the shipping!!!!! You must be joking!
The SkinIQ technology appears to be a sales myth and the squared shave head is far less comfortable than my previous 5000 dry model.

Cutting Heads Too Far from The Edge
I bought this to replace a Speed XL I've had for many years and wore out. I thought it would be an upgrade but it isn't. The chief problem is the cutting heads are too far from the edge, which makes it difficult to shave under your nose. The hinge makes it absolutely impossible with the shaver held in a natural upright position, and I find myself having to rotate round to get the narrowest gap (red arrows in pic) under my nose but its still a faff. The overall gead is huge, with long extensions past the cutters at the tips (blue arrows), and the whole feeling is of using 'the wrong tool for the job'.
The pivotting head is, it turns out a gimmick, you basically still have to follow your facial contours just lije you did with the speed XL or 3000 style. So for me its a worse shaver for more money.
