Great value for money
I bought this two weeks ago to replace an RX-V659. I've downsized where I live, and was getting tired of not having HDMI support in my receiver. The 385 is perfect for my medium size lounge room and so easy to set up. Nice to see the YAPO speaker calibration on the base model and Bluetooth work well for listening to the music on my phone. Very good value for money for the feature set.

Great value, will suit 90% of AV Receiver buyers.
Good basic receiver with easy setup. One thing I love is that I can change the name of the inputs as displayed, eg, to Apple TV, and so now won't have to guess which one of HDMI inputs I'm selecting. Also, can boost dialogue audio level which is great if you are getting a bit on in years ;) . Remote has nice sized buttons, and not too many of them. On-screen controls are brilliant, easy to navigate. At the price, it's hard to beat. Haven't tried the bluetooth input, which may be useful in a party situation.

Great sound for the price
This unit is great so far and works well with my existing speakers. I was expecting to have to go out and buy all new HDMI cords for ARC to work, it all works with the existing ones I had. It turns on and off with my TV and changes inputs when I turn something on. The only remote I need once set up is my TV one.

Yamaha RX-V385 Very Competent AV Receiver
We recently purchased this receiver to replace a 30 years old, similar Yamaha 5.1 amplifier, though without the modern features or a receiver. The external design of the new amplifier really hasn't changed that much, a large, black, solid feeling, unpretentious metal box, which we like. Clarity of sound across the frequency range is just as good, or perhaps better that the old amplifier, driving our KEF front and back speakers, JBL centre speaker, and 18" home made, amplified subwoofer, all with more than enough power to shake the room. HDMI connections and direct control by the TV remote are brilliant (e.g. amplifier turns on from standby with the TV and volume with on screen display is via the TV remote). We haven't yet hooked up the supplied antennas (FM and AM) properly to test the receiver, or tried some of the newer features, like the automatic, intelligent speaker setup, which uses a special microphone that's in the box. In summary, so far we are more than happy with the unit, which was great value for money, particularly at the discount price from Harvey Norman.
