Sound quality amazing, let down by major bugs
I purchased this for my home theatre, i've had it just over a year, I love the sound quality it brings through my yamaha speakers. The single biggest frustration is the inputs. From time to time it decides not to detect my nvidia shield and i have to unplug it from power to fix issue.
Yesterday after changing resolutions the amplifier decided not to recognize any inputs connected, all I got was a black screen. After powering it on and off and "initializing" in the menu multiple times I got on the web and found it to be a common problem with this receiver. The only solution was to unplug it from power for half an hour and then it magically fixed itself... common yamaha... wheres the firmware update for this?

Well Featured Excellent Value AV Receiver
As an upgrade to my Denon AVR-3808 (2008 model) and home theatre installer of many Yamaha receivers I am so pleased with this purchase. I like the large volume control display readout which I set to off when not in use. Sound is surpurb. Net Radio works well though a bit slow. I'm running main zone 7.0 and Zone 2 Party Mode (stereo armchair speakers in main room). It inserted into my home theatre system easily. All my HDMI inputs go through my Sony 4k 65 inch TV so I've got no comment on the receivers HDMI inputs. I'm using the TVs optical output to the receiver. I then added it to my Harmony 650 remote control easily so it works seamlessly with my complete setup. Very Happy

Good sound, Musiccast is rubbish
Bought this some time ago, sent it back to Yamaha to have the hdmi updated (first disappointment)
Change room around and thought I’d use the musiccast features to connect sub-woofer and surround speakers.
Sound via Musiccast is good, but Musiccast is rubbish. Need to reconnect speakers each time I use the amp and it takes 20-15 minutes to connect, then speakers drop out randomly, this ina small room with direct line of sight.
Cannot recommend this and am thinking of getting rid..

Replaced my old Yamaha RX-V373 with this model as this one has a phono input, is 4K and has 20 watts per channel more power. The sound is much better and the picture is too.

Easy to set up. Plasticky volume knob, not that you’ll ever touch it. Should support 4K HDR with a PS5 but I couldn’t get it working yet.
