Out of Date and Incompatible with newer speakers
I bought the First Gen speakers (although I do not think First Gen was highlighted) about 6 years ago. 2 Sonos 5, 2 Sonos 3, 2 Sonos 1, a Playbar, and a Subwoofer (approx $3,600). Now, I set up a new media room with the Arc, sub-woofer, and two Sonos One SLs. I cannot pair up this system with my First Gen because they are now incompatible. In fact, I wanted to move my playbar to the media room as it is a better speaker, but cannot because... you guessed it... it's compatible. So now i have $5,000 in speakers and I cannot pair up the system systems. Seriously... was asleep at the helm on this one? Will my new media room system become incompatible with newer speakers 5 years from now?

Sound is awesome, but the app ...
Product sounds amazing, but I had problems when I set a new WiFi mesh network in my home. Customer service at Sonos had me on hold for a long time and I gave up. An online group of Sonos owners eventually told me I needed to reboot my Sonos. I could never get it to connect to my Eeros system. My goal was to have better WiFi outside by my pool. I eventually went back to using my original home WiFi system and it took 5-6 tries to successfully do that. Then I discovered that I had to reconnect ALL of my music sources as they had been deleted from my app profile! I wasted three hours of my life and ended up with how I originally had everything.

For far too long, I suffered from the disease of "audiophilia" Like alcoholism and drug addiction, it negatively impacted my family and bored my friends. Sonos has liberated me. Well informed by my past crazy spending, I can unequivocally state that paired Sonos Fives, streaming Tidal, (another wonderful product) are the equal in sound quality, of any system costing five times the price. The major plus being the incredible ease of use, reliability, and greater aesthetics. All products just look so cool! I am 66 years young, and this is maybe the third review I have written in my life.

Doesn't work at all without good broadband.
Can't get this to work on my wifi network that's tethered to TMobile data in a rural setting. I have a Play 5 in my city home and it works fine with good, always-on broadband. But it fails hard in settings without always-on broadband. The thing is, my Hue Lighting system and other internet-connected devices work fine. It's this device in particular that doesn't work well in this environment. I'm not trying to stream music over this connection, simply manage the device -- for example, I'd like to put it in "aux" mode, but can't even do that because it fails to connect. Spent four hours trying to make it work. No dice.

Exceeded my expectations
Of course I had heard of Sonos before, but when i decided to replace some of my older equipment, I did my homework and the reviews impressed me. So I bought a 5. It impressed me more than the reviews. Then I bought the Sub-Woofer, then I bought another 5 to have full stereo sound. Are you getting the idea, I am falling in love with Sonos? Then I bought two 1's for the bedroom and another for the den. My next purchase is the Arc Soundbar. So simple to setup and use, but it's the fantastic sound that has me coming back and coming back. Buy Sonos. You will not be disappointed and may even become an addict like I have!

Set up is a nightmare but sound is fantastic
Set up is ridiculous. You have to plug into your wifi router which means that if you travel to hotels / air bnb, you cannot run the Sonos unless you have the router in front of you with an ethernet cable. Then when you get back home, you have to set up on your own network ALL OVER AGAIN! So Sonos is good if you will only ever set up once, in a room and never move it or change your wifi network or provider. A bit ridiculous in this day and age of bluetooth.. A UE Boom is transportable and reliable and connects via bluetooth with no issues. Sonos is just too bloody hard to travel with which is a shame as it's a superior sound product.

Fantastic Sounding Speaker.
I own a lot of SONOS products (two Connects, Connect Amp, Soundbar, Subwoofer, three Play1's and two Moves) and recently purchased the FIVE to replace my Gen1 Play 5. The difference between the Gen1 Play 5 and the FIVE is astounding! The FIVE is leaps and bounds better than the original Play5. Full sound, not too bass heavy and overall a great sounding speaker. If I had the funds available I'd consider replacing two of my Play1's that I'm using for surround sound and make them FIVE's! Setup was easy as usual and I was listening to my favorite streaming service in minutes. No regrets on this purchase!

Awesome when used as a left-right pair
I may be dating myself but we just recently got rid of our A/V tuner and large speakers and replaced them with a soundbar and subwoofer. I'm very happy with them for watching TV and movies but I really miss the stereo separation when listening to music. I originally bought a pair of Bose wireless speakers but returned them when I had to use bluetooth to stream Apple Music and then learned that they would not work as a let-right pair. I now have a pair of Play5 speakers set up as a left-right pair and they are awesome! I think they're every bit as good as the large speakers I got rid of and they take up a lot less space and don't need the tuner.
