Rated 5 out of 5 by from So reliable. I've have the first Sony A7, A7RII, A9 (first generation), A7RIII, and was debating going to the 7RIV before deciding on going all in with the A1. I capture mostly stills but have started more video, recently filming a podcast - the camera recorded nearly 60 minutes of 4k without issue. The body got slightly warm, but not hot or overheated. 8k might be a different story, but I have no need to capture that much video data. For the images, and technology within this camera to capture such dynamic content - I feel like this camera will last and last and last. It will be a very long time until I feel like I'll need an upgrade.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not satisfied Shame that for a camera of such performance, no subject detection or tracking is available in video. This made me thinking to switch to Nikon Z9 or canon R5II, they both offer subject detection and tracking in video like birds and animals.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade I upgraded from alpha 7 iii so I could track birds and animals I do like it but need to work at setting up customised buttons. I do find the menu on ai difficult at times and have had to use searches to find answers ( how to have the camera switch from 1 full card to my one auto) lost some great potential shots as had to manually insert a card during a wildlife encounter. Thinks fixed now

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed. This is probably not the right time to do a review because my A1 has an issue with rejecting memory cards and has to be sent to a Sony service centre. So I'm not happy about it after waiting two months to get it now who know how long this will take. It's brand new camera that cost a fortune and it needs to be repaired. Sony send me another A1 and take this one back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect... The A1 combines the speed of my A9 with the high resolution of my A7R IV. The bird eye-autofocus is fantastic. For me as a still bird/wildlife photographer it is missing one key feature available on many other cameras that would make it perfect : Pre-capture mode to retain the last few frames BEFORE the shutter is fully depressed, this would seem an easy Firmware upgrade to add to give all those sports/wildlife photographers waiting for "the hero shot" a much greater chance to of capturing it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My short time with ILCE-1B Although I am retired and self funded I was so impressed with the reviews that I told myself I would buy one last camera ( I was 80 last week). I have indeed been amazed at the results this camera will produce. I have been concentrating on birds, particularly on the wing. whilst the bird eye detection is not perfect, when it works (quite often- varies with plumage) it is fantastic. The menu system is an improvement for me as I have an A7R2, A7R3 and several previous models. I don't use video very often so haven't tried it yet. I think the price is a bit too high but as its probably top dog for the moment that is somrething we should expect. I must be fair and report that I have had to return mine for repair. When I go out for a shoot I have a shoulder harness which suspends the camera near my hip. I would set the camera for birds including AF-C mode. As I walked along I would see a bird and quickly attempt to shoot but the camera had set itself to MF. I found this was due to the lens as when I unlatched the lens and without removing it relatched it would fix the problem This happened no matter which lens I used. Probably the lens mount or pins. I did try cleaning the pins but the problem persisted. Hope to get it back soon. Despite this I am very impressed with this camera.

I bought this camera to improve my wildlife photography, especially tracking birds in flight with a FF image that had plenty of pixels (shot at a high rate) to allow for cropping. I have not been disappointed, with the bird eye focus (even in flight) simply amazing. The EVF and touch-screen back are also wonderful, as is the 'new' menu layout (compared to previous models). However, I am patiently waiting for SONY to update the firmware to bring us the Pro Capture feature that some other cameras now boast. With that addition, the SONY a1 would be extraordinary for wildlife/bird photography, but also for sports and any other fast-moving subject matter. Is this camera worth the (premium) price? It is certainly powerful, and I know that good R&D costs big bucks. I am hoping that subsequent firmware upgrades will make the price worthwhile over time ...
