*In general, cookware with a higher iron content will work best on induction cooktops. Even if a magnet sticks to the bottom of the cookware, if the heat transfer seems lacking, it may indicate that the pan has insufficient iron content.
**Before use, people with electronic implants like pacemakers, etc., should consult their doctor, as the induction cooker generates a magnetic field.

Works but fails to mention specification
It works and the quality is decent but would be nice if the product mentioned anywhere how small the induction coil size is. It turns out it only heats about 10cm in the middle which causes the eye of Sauron to manifest in the middle of a 23mm base carbon steel frying pan. The middle 10cm glows red hot while the majority of the pan doesn't even sizzle. The carbon steel pan calls for a 22.5cm induction coil, the cooktop specifies working with cookware base sizes between 12-23cm but with a heating area of only 10cm its almost misleading. Using the heaviest of pans helps with the distribution but it struggles to keep up the heat. Tldr terrible with large frying pans.

Great but some room for improvement
I really like this cooktop. It has good power and the controls are simple. It also handles cast iron much better than another portable induction cooktop I have that has an issue of overheating when using cast iron. I did have to get my original one replaced as there was a fault but the replacement has been fine. My biggest complaint has been that sometimes when pressing the control buttons, they don't respond. I experienced this issue on both the units I have had. Overall though, it is a nice little unit that does an amazing job and is a great way to learn about induction cooking. I like the simplicity of the controls and the pause function is useful as well.

Disappointing product
Disappointing. Previously had another brand which had used successfully for several years. When it needed replacement I opted for Breville as a trusted brand. This hot plate is disappointing to say the least compared to other brand. Limited temperature control, small heating area (some of my pans dont cook evenly - burns in the middle and cooler on the outer edges) which has me resorting to my gas cooker and increased use of energy. Disappointing for Breville brand as it was a brand that usually has reliability and trust

Only good for boiling (water) or searing.
This induction cooker doesn't have 10 power levels as advertised. It actually has two and for the lower settings it switches between 1,200W and zero on a 12 second cycle. That means for things like thick sauces or fried eggs you end up with burnt offerings. On '200' it is at 1,200W for 2 seconds then off for 10 seconds, then repeats over and over. Baked beans burn. HN gave me a refund the same day.

Everything is great but too noisy
I like it simple and minimal. The fan is as loud as cheap motel hair dryer at max speed, and it turns on and off itself without warning. Not a deal-breaker for me. But someone in the house who is sensitive to noise find this unbearable. So I had to return it. What a shame. Nowadays some cheap exotic brands claim they use laptop cooling technology in induction cooktop, Breville certainly could do better.

Small magnet will wreck your pans
I love cooking with induction, the speed and control is unparalleled. I use this unit for everything with a few exceptions. For long and slow I use the normal cooker, because the unit is noisy.
The real downside though is the size of the magnet. You might think the dotted circle is showing you the heating surface, it is not. The actual surface heated in about 100mm wide in the centre of your pan. You WILL wreck your prized pans. I have lost count of the number of non-stick frypans I have turfed, the center burns out even when you take care not to raise the wattage beyond 1000. Heavy based stainless steel pans will also deform over time, everything gets a bump in the centre, because that is where the magnet is.
i will continue to use this item, but take a lot of care moving pans around and just live with the fact that my carbon steel searing pan is deformed.
I am hanging out for improvements in the technology available at my price point, could be a while.

Heating area too small
We are great fans of Breville products, so bought this ahead of other brands.
Works well with a pot or similar, but the heating area is too small, so get very uneven results when frying.
Quite disappointing!

Could do better Breville
I've been using this unit for about a year. It's not as good as the Phillips portable that lasted about 7 years and had more features and cooking flexibility (unfortunately discontinued).
The worst thing that happened recently was the boil dry feature failed and caused my coffee pot to burn red hot. Fortunately I was nearby, as only my intervention turned the cooker off!
It's an adequate cooker.
