Unnecessarily frustratingI bought this Samsung TV for my parents and went over to set it up for them. What should have been a straightforward experience turned into a frustrating and time-consuming process.
To use basic apps like Netflix, the TV forces you to create or log in to a Samsung account. The login process was painful, with unnecessarily strict and confusing password requirements that are completely inappropriate for a living-room TV—especially when setting it up for older users. Until this login was completed, the TV felt largely useless.
Even worse, without completing the account setup, the TV failed to find Freeview channels via the satellite connection. It also wouldn’t properly recognise the HDMI input from an older Freeview box. Every time the HDMI input was selected, the TV insisted on searching for content instead of just displaying the signal. Cancelling the search made the HDMI input work, which shows the hardware was fine—but the software behaviour was poorly designed and intrusive.
Overall, the TV prioritises forced accounts, content scanning, and “smart” features over basic functionality. A television should first and foremost show TV and accept HDMI inputs reliably, without requiring logins, passwords, and workarounds. For less tech-savvy users, this experience would be extremely off-putting. I would not recommend this TV for anyone buying for elderly parents or anyone who just wants things to work.
