Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good watch I should have gotten the bigger watch face surface..it's a little too small for my eyes to see everything but I finally found a watch face that allows me to read everything even though it's boring. So far the solar charging is less than impressive..and I'm not sure how it will last on a multi day hiking trip. I charged it some in the sun today and for about 90 minutes I got a 2% charge. I bought this hoping it would allow me to trace multi day hikes with the solar charging but I'm skeptical. More to come I guess. I like that it has built in hiking activities because that's what I primarily bought this for and the track back feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beast of a watch. Used and abused this watch daily as a tradesman. Just the right amount of features and raised bevel so i’m not terrified of destroying the face of the watch while I work. Analog buttons are a huge plus for folks who wear gloves too. Battery life is exceptional and since i’m outside for work, it lasts even longer with the solar charging capability. Only qualm is that every time I charge it up to 100% via the charger, I have to reset it so the solar function works again. MINUSCULE price to pay for an excellent watch. Takes max 7 seconds to do. Hopefully there’s a software update that fixes it… Overall, highly recommend this watch. Absolute workhorse.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smaller 40 mm size I am a previous owner of the Instinct and just love my old watch. This is smaller and the wrist band is much smaller. I am still trying to get used to the differences and the watch face is smaller and has too much information on it. I would prefer to have the option of going back to the face with just 4 fields and larger time numbers. Also, I could push the GPS button and my hiking app would come up first. Now I have to scroll through lots options to hike. Possibly there are ways of reordering the options. Also, the altimeter doesn't seem as accurate. So far (winter) the solar feature has had an opportunity to function much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Poor readability. I bought the Instinct 2S Solar several weeks ago and am still fumbling through settings on the watch! The small brochure that came with it was of little help. I had to watch some YouTube videos to set some of the less basic settings. Not intuitively designed! The other issue is the tiny script. I’m a young 60 and wear readers, but not in the pool- some tweaks to background lighting and increases font size would be helpful. While I know there is a learning curve, I am generally a quick study. This watch is a bit frustrating, hence the 4/5 stars!! Could also be some glare on the watch face. Visibility is my main issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Die hard gshock fan but had a hard time finding a fitness watch with good tide function w/Casio. This Garmin model fits the bill with its simple screen, accurate tide graph, rugged minimalist design and super functional sensor. Only downside is it drains my phone battery a bit but the fitness data it collects is amazing and worth the hit. The band on the s model is more ladies fit and short for my average wrist so I changed it out for a 21mm seiko monster rubber diver band. Really like that it has an original design and not the ubiquitous square iwatch that is overplayed. Great for all levels beginner to expert.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Inaccurate heart rate for treadmill mode Love the design and look. But two fatal flaws: 1) heart rate can be very unreliable for treadmill mode. I know my approximate hr from previous Apple Watch data. My range for a mid-effort run is 140-170 but Garmin would give me a constant 100, or even 70-80 for treadmill. I could use run mode to get an hr closer to reality, but that's not optimal because run is supposed for outdoor 2) the watch strap that comes with the watch is not breathable. It gets uncomfortable after a long run or wearing it to sleep after a few nights. Have to spend extra for a better band. (Also, sometimes the watch couldn't detect sleep data. But that's a smaller issue compared to the two major flaws)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not great Garmin is my preferred activity tracker since it's what they're best at. I bought this watch because of the battery life and the solar charging option. The first few days that I had the watch, the battery life was consistently 20+ days. By the end of the first week, the battery life went down to 4-5 days and hasn't increased since, even though it isn't connected to my smart phone or receiving notifications from any device. I tried all of the troubleshooting options but nothing is resolved. I'll be backpacking for the next six months and bought this specifically because of the battery life. So far, meh.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrible watch band, great watch otherwise I'm not sure what species they designed the watch to fit comfortably, it isn't a human though. Most 20mm bands can be adapted, which then fixes the problem. Garmin uses a funky oversized pin, that won't fit every band, but there are options. The other downside, certain outside brightness, you won't be able to see the face. Light on isn't quite bright enough. Full daylight, full night it's fine. I'm near 50 and eyesight isn't great so the small script is eh. Those are the cons I've got. The rest is great. Menu nav is good, sensors accurate, workout reps great, battery life amazing, recharge quick.
