Unnecessary gadget
Redundant and Regretful
I own the Garmin Epix Gen 2, which already tracks sleep with precision. The Index Sleep Monitor? Completely unnecessary. It’s a single-purpose wearable that duplicates what my watch already does, sleep stages, recovery metrics, smart alarm, all of it. I kept hoping there’d be some added value, but nope. It’s just another device to charge, sync, and wear.
The band is comfortable, sure, but that doesn’t justify the price tag. If you’re already in the Garmin ecosystem and have a capable watch, this feels like a solution in search of a problem. I wish I hadn’t bought it. Save your money and let your watch do its job.

Comfortable Sleep Monitor
This sleep monitor is very comfortable and allows those who don't like sleeping with their Garmin watch (like me) to track sleep and enable the advanced metrics on higher end watches. The arm band is comfortable and you barely notice that it is there most of the time. Occasionally it may feel like it is falling off, but I suspect that is the edge of the sleeve of my t-shirt without feeling the entire sleeve on my arm.
I have not washed the arm band yet, but that is a nice feature to have.
Battery life is as advertised so far.
While not a necessary device by any means this is nice to have if you are finicky with what you wear while sleeping.

Failed Product
I've had the sleep monitor for a week - and it has not once gathered sleep data. 2/7 nights it collected heart rate - which my watch could already do. I have experimented with syncing, turning off my water, etc - nothing has worked. The sleep monitor issues are part of a larger weakness in the Garmin eco system.
I am probably a couple days from sending it back. The device should be pretty simple - gather data from a direct reading and send it to the paired phone. If you are looking for a product that does what it advertises with no hassle - this is not for you.
Whence someone figures this out - I will gladly delete this review.

Just shy of excellent. Very comfortable, sometimes you forget you're wearing it. Augments a Garmin watch well, but definitely isn't a must have unless you can't / won't sleep wearing your watch.
Unfortunately the device doesn't always pair correctly, and/or has data conflicts with the watch if you don't follow an exact pairing sequence with the app.
This is an avoidable software issue, but at this price point, it really should work seamlessly and out of the box with limited/no headaches and it just doesn't quite reach that point.
I would add that I've learned the right sequence, but one shouldn't have to learn a sequence for the data to just work.

Not worth the expense
I have a Fenix 6 and the only thing the sleep monitor does that the Fenix does not is the body temp measurement and breath variations.
The monitor really is only “needed” if you don’t wear your watch to bed. Becasuse most Garmin watches already do all the functions of the monitor.
In addition to it not really do anything more than a Garmin watch already, you are not supposed to sleep on the arm that it’s on.
Kind of hard if you happen to sleep on both of your sides throughout the night.
Overall, not worth it if you already have a Garmin watch. Pretty lackluster product that doesn’t offer anything special.

Awful
I bought the first one, and it was too small. Garmin made it right and replaced it for the right size. The large one had a defective sensor that never worked, so I sent it back. Contrary to some reviews it was really uncomfortable to sleep with because you either have to have it too loose so it slips off or if you secure it normally it pinches a nerve and cuts circulation off of arm. Garmin really needs to get on the ring bandwagon to monitor sleep without having to wear your watch. Now I don't monitor it because Garmin has no viable or good options and will not integrate oura or any other ring data into their app.

Meh
This is the third time I have had to 'forget' my device to try to get it to sync. When it works, it's great. When it doesn't it is super frustrating. Won't sync or gives me crazy off data... that doesn't make sense. I can understand if it is loose on my arm and the numbers get off numbers - but that's not the case. Ultimately, if you don't mind being frustrated once a week b/c it suddenly won't sync then it will work for you. I really really want it to work - it's comfortable and I'm "all in" on other garmin products. Maybe I have a bum device - I've had issues multiple times and only started using 4 months ago.

Great idea, but....
Like always with Garmin, the sleep monitor is well manufactured and nice to wear. I never have the feeling that something foreign is on my arm during my sleep.
The measurement though is unreliable. One night I went to bed at 12:30 am and got up at 8:00 am. Downloading the data to my fenix 8 it read: start of sleep 9:25, end of sleep 1:40 am. Of course it gave me a really bad sleep score of 35, after having been in the 86 to 93 range the nights before. I will see if this was a one time slip or if it will happen more often. This is definitely quite a bit irritating considering the cost of this gadget. How can the monitor start measuring without being worn or touched?
