Nice sound, but so loud!
It's hard to get a solid, simple clock radio these days. I liked the look and feel of this, and I like the variable brightness of the display. I had to refer to the instructions to set the alarms, which was a little annoying, but not devastating. The thing I really dislike is that the radio volume is so LOUD. If you select the radio option for the alarm, it very quickly escalates from loud to very, very loud. And even at the lowest possible volume, level 1 of 16, it's still way too loud for the 'sleep' function to be useful. No more drifting off to sleep with the radio murmuring comfortingly in the background. It would be perfect if only the sound level could be reduced.

Great Feautures and Great Build Quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned this alarm clock now for nearly two Years. It has never let me down and the large LCD Screen panel makes it easier to use at night, with battery back up and 2 alarm set buttons. You can set two alarms on one clock. I would like to see a Alarm clock like this made with a green LCD as orange can be a bit distracting of a night when your trying to go to sleep or incorporate a button where the user can change the LCD Screen to there desired colour. Radio picks up AM FM stations really clearly. I have been a long time user of panasonic products as there products stand the test of time

After some 30-odd years, my clock radio gave up. Inconveniently just after Auckland went into lockdown in August. So had to improvise with my phone,.......VERY frustrating. Searched all the electrical retailers websites for a new one, read all the reviews and finally opted for this one. I could have ordered and had it couriered to me, but with some purchases for the home, I like to see them in 'real life' first.
Finally was able to get in store and confirmed my decision.
It's a nice compact design with all the controls on the top clearly laid out, and nicely sized buttons. Quite easy to set up, but I referred to the instruction manual, anyway.
Runs on AC and requires two AA batteries for back-up, which is a pleasant change from the usual EXPENSIVE 9 Volt ones. I though the power cord could be another 15-20cm longer, I have to use a power board and it's a bit of a stretch to fit this, plus a bedside lamp as well, when I only have a single power point in my room. Also has an attached FM antenna you can unravel and attach to the wall or wherever you need it.
Has 3 levels of brightness for the clock. Clock format is 24-hour only. I have it on the dimmest setting even during the day, and that is quite sufficient. The thickness of the numbers in the display is great, so can easily be read from a distance.
The volume range is from 1-16. Has the option of 2 alarms, but sadly, you cannot lower the alarm volume (starts at 8!) No way, you would ever sleep through that!
Only receives FM. Scans the frequencies when you first set it up and programs them into the 10 preset channels, but you can change the presets, if you wish. Sleep timer can be set for 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.

I hate this clock radio, but you might love it.
Why i hate this clock radio but why you might love it:
It's bright. Even on dimmest setting it lights up the room.
Snooze is only 5 mins. No other option. 5 mins thats it.
When the alarm goes off the Clock displays the radio frequency for several seconds and not the time.
Setting the alarm is like completing a puzzle. It's overly complicated, convoluted, counter intuitive and frustrating.
The Alarm Off button is not easy to locate. It's flush with the case and the same shape as all the other buttons. Did you set alarm 1 or alarm 2?
I hate this clock radio, but you might love it.

Loud alarm
Great clock with great features but the alarm's only volume starts at 8, which is ridiculously loud. No option of having the alarm soft, either when beeping or radio. Unfortunately this means I don't use the alarm as intended as it wakes the whole house up at once

Why can the user not set their own alarm volume
For goodness sake it is ridiculous that I cannot set the radio volume on the alarm at anything other than wake the entire house level. Is there a technical reason why that is set at a high minimum, blowed if I can see one.
I like everything else about the unit - even using it as a radio (with the volume much lower than 8) - but the alarm makes it unusable for that purpose. Wish I had found some reviews that mentioned that

Radio Alarm Setting
I have been trying for a couple of days to set the alarm to radio. However, after listening to the radio manually at volume 8, I wouldn't use the radio alarm function anyway (as said in other reviews) because the volume is set a 8 which is awful. Seems I'll just use it as a clock and rely on my phone for a peaceful alarm wake up.

24-hour clock ONLY
I bought this radio yesterday because it had a clear easy to read read display to view at night without my glasses on. It was difficult to set up so I had to search to page nine of the Operating Instructions before I read this was a 24-hour clock. No other mention of this on the box or website. I will return it today.

Is it better than the panasonic 700 alarm radio
Thanks for your question. Yes, it has the same base functionality as the RC-700 model, however, it is reported to have a loud alarm, even on the lowest setting. Sound can be subjective however, and we recommend having a chat with your local store if requiring something less intrusive. ^CO

HOW DO i TURN THE ALARM OFF
Thanks for your question Jeanette. To turn the alarm off, Press [ALARM/-SET, 1] or [ALARM/-SET, 2] twice to turn the corresponding alarm on/off. To stop the sounding alarm - Press On/Off button or press the corresponding alarm button ([ALARM/-SET, 1] or [ALARM/-SET, 2]). Hope this helps!

Hi, I like this clock and would like to buy it. The only thing I am hesitant on is the loudness of the alarm. Lots of reviews discuss how loud it is. It would wake my house. Is there any way it can be made quieter/softer?

Great question! There are 2 options available for tuning. You can use the AUTO PRESET feature by holding this button at the top for 2 seconds, and it will auto tune and set 10 channels according to lowest frequency. You can also manual tune by holding the TUNE/SELECT button for 2 seconds, then pressing the Up or Down arrow. Once you find a channel you like, press the TUNE/SELECT button once more and Up and Down arrow to set the channel number between 1 to 10. Hope this helps!

How long does the radio continue after the alarm has come on and is it easy to to switch the radio on if it stops. Handy for snoozing and listening to the news updates - thank you.
Hi Alastair, thanks for your question. The alarm/radio will continue for 59 minutes once it has come on. This can be turned off or on at any time. It can pre-set upto 10 FM stations, that are easy to swap between. Hope this helps.
