What size mattress does this take? Does the mattress lie flush or does it sit inside the frame?

Hi, as stated on the product description it fits a standard NZ Single mattress for the main bed, and the trundle also uses a Single mattress but must be no more than 20 cm thick so it can slide in and out easily; in both cases the mattresses sit inside the upholstered frame rather than flush on top, resting on internal slats so the sides and back of the daybed remain visible and give it a sofa‑style look, meaning very thick or pillow‑top mattresses aren’t recommended.
