They are better
Nearly every review I have read and YouTube video I have watched has told me that the 600’s and 650’s are superior to the newer 660s2’s despite their age, so I believed them and bought some 650’s. Yes they are exceptional cans and deserve their legendary status, but curiosity got the better of me and decided to try the 660s2’s.
Granted I’m no expert, but I think the 660s2’s are better headphones in every single department. Ever so slightly more comfortable, a smidge more bass, a tad more detail, a bit wider soundstage and a more modern, stylish paint job. I think they are a step forward, not by much, but how could they be? Sennheiser shot themselves in the foot all those years ago by setting the bar so high.

Awesome upgrade after 20y
Sound is superb. A great upgrade from HD 650. Not as amplifier dependant. Not as colored as 650. Just as detailed & vivid but more neutral overall, plus subbass which is lacking in 650.

Sennheiser knows what they are doing, Bravo!
Solid construction. you can feel the quality. Don't let the plastic deter you from buying these. The clamping force is a little much, but I have a large head. I used my headphone holder, with a couple of folded cloths, to widen the clamping and it now fits perfect. You can wear these all day with no ear fatigue or head pain.
The sound is amazing. The sub bass is present without being muddy. I EQ with my HD600 but the 660S2 does not need it. They pair will with my Schiit Valhalla 2 tube amp.
Not only is this an upgrade to the HD600 (for me), but the 660S2 stands on its own as a great, open-back headphone

My HD 660S2 experience
So far, I love these headphones. I listen to music, obviously and they sound incredible. It almost feels like it engulfs me and transports me to a happier place. I also game a lot, and they still sound incredible, the low thuds of artillery fire and the high pitches poorly oiled machinery moving through fields, it sounds like I'm really there at least. (Though maybe not the greatest place to be pulled into) With all my praise I am currently giving these headphones, you may wonder why I felt like I had to give it 9 stars. They are tight, they like to squeeze my head and makes it hard to have on for extended periods. I will admit they are looser than the HD650's out of the box, still tight. However I am the type that struggles to find a hat that fits in stores, so tight headphones are to be expected. All in all, I highly recommend these headphones.

Best one so far
I went to these from some DT 990 Pro's 250ohm. and lemme tell you something. its been about 2 months but im still sold that these will be my forever headphones. I have never felt that way about headphones. They sound FULL, very full. Super detailed and clean, and pretty good sub bass. I have them paired with a FiiO k5 pro

Not the upgrade it is purported to be
Touted as the upgrade to the HD 650, but it's more like the upgrade to the HD 58X from Drop.
Doesn't have any of the midrange magic of the 6 series, has meaningfully brighter and harsher treble, and is significantly more expensive. Looks incredible (love the colorway) but sonically it's a miss for me across the board.

Supreme Quality
I am very happy with this purchase. Supremely comfortable to wear, very nice/quality engineering produces a high fidelity sound experience... I particularly appreciate Sennheiser following up with the sound samples via email, whereby I received a 'guided tour' of the capabilities built into these headphones... Supreme quality - excellent sound reproduction - no regrets, would buy again...

Review from a person never had a Senn before
As someone who never had a Senn before, the S2 simply matches all of my expectation of the iconic Senn sound. Enough bass but not muddy, warm mid and not fatiguing highsl, combined with wide and precise soundstage. With everything combined, the first time hearing music playing on the S2 did not surpurise me like the Hifiman Sundara or Beyer 1990pro, but I slowly enjoy music on the S2 more than i did on the Sundara or Beyers. However, I do wish the mids to be a little foward and bright.
