Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed so far I was delighted with my purchase of the Barista Pro in April 2020. The look and the operation of the machine was good. However, within 6 weeks the grinder began to have little problems. I have managed to work around that, but now the steaming feature is inoperative. I have followed the manual's suggestions to no avail. I have had the machine for only five months. I so wanted this to be my last espresso machine, but I am discouraged with it. I have read other reviews concerning long hold times with Customer Service. On Monday I shall have to begin my attempts to contact them. I would recommend holding off purchasing Breville for some time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete Newbie reviews the PRO Im new to the espresso world. Had to google best machines and breville is in every list. I bought the PRO and I LOVE IT! I always assumed coffee was always bitter until I bought this machine. Not only was the shot not bitter, but after i poured in the steamed milk, i never had to use sugar. I love the creamy and foamy texture it produces. The only negative i have to say is that i wished it had the option or ability to produce a hotter pour. If not mistaken i believe the less expensive breville bambino plus had it. Other than that, i believe this is the go to machine. I would suggest this over the barista express bcuz the PRO can deliver a faster pour so the fresh shot of crema is in tact.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 6 months later - update I have been using the Barista Pro for 6+ months now and have upgraded my overall rating Now getting a more consistent double shot after getting the grind and dose right for the beans we use (if you change beans then likely you will have to make some grind and dose changes) and much better milk texturing after a few more goes Machine is very fast & easy to use. It is not quite giving the same coffee experience as my older machine but it is so much quicker, there is less mess and i would recommend for home/family use. If you are chasing an ultimate espresso this may not be the choice but I am finding this a good unit for most purposes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 year update! Wow, this coffee gets better and better! I usually just have an americano, lattes once a week. My daughter in law has model below this..she changed settings for latte, incredible. The default grind at 15 is a little weak, good for americanos. We changed grind to 4 to 6 time went up over 20 sec, awesome! Best ever! Getting to be a snob now! Packed it for our 2 week beach vacation! Big hit! One potential suggestion We only use rev osmosis water. Indiana has a ton of lime which will ruin heater quickly. Cleaning should extend time for ro. Dont use city tap water. You will need sevice in 3 yr. I serviced our old maker heplacing heating elements, solenoid valves, pumps, due to mineral deposits.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap looking I was thrilled when I first received my Breville Barista Pro. I had waited months for the color I wanted. Four months after it starts making a strange noise and water stops flowing completely. I send it to Breville for maintenance and receieved it back fairly promptly. Now, all the lettering for the display buttons are fading. It appears they are just stamped. Only eight months of use and it looks poorly made and cheap. I expected a more sturdy product for a machine I considered an investment. Soon only I will be able to use it because nothing will be identified. Regret this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny When you really get into coffee then this is the machine for you, it gives the amateur barista a starting block that is more than entry level, it is a powerful machine without being over complicated and yet gives you plenty of room for growth. Brilliant compact design with everything you will need to get started, just add coffee and milk. I’ve gone from getting the right shot to teaching myself to do latte art with this machine, worth every penny, a sound purchase with plenty of accessories and spare parts to not have to worry other than what coffee to try next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Machine [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was really happy to get this machine because I normally spend a lot of money at coffee shops. Set up of the machine was pretty easy but it did take a few days for me to get used to using it. It took me a few tried to adjust the grinder the way that I wanted it but once I got the hang of it, it was really easy. This is one really impressive machine. It makes a great expresso and I learned how to make a really delicious cappuccino with it as well. I really like the fact that it has a milk frother. The coffee that I have made with this machine tastes worlds better than a regular coffee maker. The water does not take long to heat up and the coffee is made in 2 minutes or less.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Machine has Died Twice in a Year We have had this machine for a little over a year. It can make good espresso, but is a little bit inconsistent (acceptable for the price point I guess). But that's not the problem. It had an issue with the pump building enough pressure to pull espresso shots two months ago. We had to send the machine to Breville to service it. Now it cannot generate steam pressure or pull a shot just a couple months later, it's looking like we'll have to send the machine to Breville again. So what can I conclude? The build quality isn't there with these Breville Machines. Form, function, acceptable espresso quality? Sure. If it stops running when you want an espresso? What's the point...

The Breville® BES878 Barista Pro™ has a digital display, a 2 year limited Repair Warranty and a slightly larger counter top foot print. The BES870 Barista Express™ has a 1 year limited repair warranty, a slightly smaller foot print, no digital display and a pressure gauge.
