Great ice cream, but points to consider
We picked this up as a last-minute fun summer Christmas present for the family; I expected it to be not much more than a gimmicky ice cream dispenser, but: it actually makes REALLY good soft serve. The instructions are clear and the machine is easy to use and clean. I also like that if there's excess soft serve at the end of the session, it can be saved in the freezer as traditional ice cream (which is also pretty good).
However, some points to consider - while a simple machine, it is not quick. This is not something you can just whip out of the cupboard and start squirting out treats in 5 mins. Even with the internal cooling part kept in the freezer for 24 hours before hand (!!!), it still takes more than half an hour from start to finish to get ice cream in the cone. It's a fun process, especially if you get the kids involved, but this isn't the ice cream equivalent of a coffee pod machine. Also, the quality of the ice cream is obviously going to rely on the quality of the ingredients being used - cheaper runnier milk/cream/etc will still work but your end result won't be as good.
But if you're okay with all those points above, then this is a good fun addition to a kitchen for people who like this sort of gimmicky thing.

Good concept, poor execution.
Poorly thought out, flimsy design that creates waste and is impossible to properly clean. All my attempt so far has yielded ice cream that is too soft or a consistency seems ok but becomes runny before it can be eaten. Only manageable in a bowl, hopeless in a cone. This is despite ensuing our freezer is set at -18 as recommended, keeping the bowl stored in the freezer all the time on a level surface and even pre-chilling the mixture before making. We live in Brisbane so I wonder if the ambient temperature is too hot for the mixture to freeze properly? We have been making ice cream and then freezing it to eat later - it is quite delicious but this defeats the purpose of the soft serve concept. A new, disgusting issue was discovered tonight when I found black mould in the dispenser unit as I was serving the ice cream. I wondered what the black furry stuff was and to my horror found mould all through the mechanism. The dispenser parts are a sealed unit so they are impossible to clean properly and obviously remnants of the mixture remained in the dispenser last time it was used even though I soaked it. I spent about 20 min tonight with a bottle brush, tooth brush and boiling water to try and remove the mould. It is disgusting and I will be returning to the store for a refund.

Makes the most amazing soft serve ice cream. The recipe is easy to follow, the ice cream machine is sooooo easy to use, the kids had fun getting the mix-ins and toppings ready. 8 very happy family members who all agreed it was better than Mr Whippy!

LOVE IT!
We love this so much!
Have to say we are using it nearly everyday. Simple recipes (frozen yoghurt is delish!) The ice cream is creamy and just like shop soft serve.
We have found it definitely pays to use higher quality cream and milk .
We've had no trouble cleaning it properly. It all pulls apart simply enough.
Highly recommend!

Can you buy an extra inside bowl without the whole machine so that you can have continuous ice cream instead of waiting another whole 24 hours for the inside bowl to freeze, as its only good for 10 servings it said.

Can we use normal tip top vanilla ice cream in the bowl and just add strawberry's to it?
