Love the temperature feature
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Kettle is slick. Boils temperature quickly and relatively quiet. The temperature feature is very handy and a much nicer looking kettle than competitors on the market, like the Breville. Pours really well.
Main complaint is that the lid doesn’t fully open / able to be taken off and so it’s sometimes a bit tricky getting water in there depending on your tap. In the scheme of things, pretty minor complaint, but test it out before you buy to make sure it works for you. My wife finds the ‘ding’ once it has boiled a bit annoying (like an aeroplane reminder to buckle in your seatbelt), but I quite like it!

Jury still out on the KEK1701 Kettle
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first Kitchen Aid purchase and it looks to be a well made product, as it should be for the price.
It looks stylish in the kitchen and it is quiet and has a soft ping sound when you turn it on and when the water is boiled which is a nice feature.
I bought this product about a month ago and it works well but cools down very quick (it seems earlier/other models were double walled to retain heat)
It seems to go through a self check heat cycle where it starts heating then stops and checks itself for 10 seconds and starts again, I'm not sure if this is a feature or a fault but has led to complaints from the kids (the manual for the KEK1701 isn't on the Kitchen aid support website yet)
The lid opening mechanism seems a bit flimsy, as does the lid hinge, but time will tell.
I hope it lasts the distance as I do like the kettle.

Step backwards from previous Kitchenaid kettle
I regret purchasing this Kettle after owning it for less than a month, if I still had the box id return it. I purchased it to replace a wider KitchenAid to save bench space but this one lacks the double walled insulation and the most disappointing step backwards is the fact the the button to open the lid has moved from the handle to the lid meaning I cant pick up the kettle, pop the lid and fill up the kettle using one hand.

Annoying ding
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love the look, quality and feel of this stylish kettle but it makes the MOST annoying and loud ding every time you switch the kettle on or off. I contacted Kitchenaid about this to see if there's anything I can do to turn it off but the answer was no. They claim it is a safety feature but I disagree that one is required for a kettle. If they insist on continuing with the ding at least make it quieter. I am not alone in my complaint. I went on-line to see if there was anything I could do but there is nothing to be done without voiding the warranty (and getting the soldering iron out). Many people have the same issue as I do.

The Star of in my kitchen
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Never looked back since replacing my old tired worn out kettle with KitchenAid’s 1.7L variable temperature kettle in Empire Red. It is a smart kitchen accessory where you can control the temperature of your water. It boils fast and has a delightful ping sound when switched on and off so useful if you are not near that it’s ready. Light to pick up and refill regardless of the size of your sink and fits easily back into its cradle no need for a couple of attempts. Classic design with a contemporary look. Well worth the investment

Looks are better than the works
I bought this kettle about a year ago, it worked well, then a month in, the button on the lid to open the lid to fill with water started sticking. We just learnt to not try an open the lid other than on a solid surface and it would open after about 5 attempts, now it takes up to 10 try's and occasionally I have given up and added the water through the spout. For the money, it is beyond disappointing and so very annoying, my husband wants to throw it away and buy a cheap and cheerful one. Poorest quality of any kettle I have purchased.

Good kettle
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice kettle, with ability to adjust temperature. Quick boil, and quieter boil compared to others.
Makes a sound when used and has boiled, which is useful, however it’s very loud so wakes up child for night feed.
Button to open lid is located at the top which it slightly annoying and the lid gets hot if you need to use it again and refill after boiling previously.
Would buy this again, as warranty was easy to deal with and overall this is a good product compared to competitors

Great kettle
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Quiet, fast boiling, very good quality and functions well with the temperature control. Perfect finish. I read a lot of about the negative review, still decided to give it a go as I haven't had one before. The ding is OK, could be more enjoyable or reduce volume, or only when water is boiled. The top opening, again fine to use, does reuqire a change of habit as all other kettles I owned can be opened with single hand without touching hot metal. Just a little gap in design. Overall it's a very good kettle. Got it on special so not complaining. I would give 4.7
