Oily Residue
Have loved the flex edge beater; however, the last month or so there is an oily residue that shows up on the beater, usually a few days after it's washed. I store it in my bowl with the other beaters and at first though it was the actual mixer leaking onto the beater. So I sat it on the counter and the residue is still there.
I can wash it to clean it up, but after sitting for a week, the oil is back. Even though I wash it before use, it's very disappointing to think that whatever it is may be leaching into my doughs/batters. I've noticed a few other reviews on here with the same issue so I don't understand why this issue hasn't been addressed and fixed.

I am on my third one! The paint chips off!
It chips off of the bottom and I have become extremely frustrated with it. after the first one started chipping, I treated the next one with care and it still chipped! One blog of cake bakers were talking about this problem and they all agreed that it isn't just the way the mixer is set up.. several of them had adjusted theirs and it still happened! It also happened at several different points on the beater. Up high and down at the bottom. These bakers were also told that nuts could do it! If nuts knock off the coating then there is a serious problem here! It's a good mixer but they need to figure out how to keep the DELICATE coating on the beater! people are ingesting these coating chips!

No spatula needed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Normally when we use our mixer we need a spatula to make sure things mix properly and don’t stick to the edges. At first I thought this would help clean the bowl. My initial reaction was disappointment until I realized I misunderstood how this worked.
It evenly removes ingredients from the bowls edges by scraping or sweeping them with a silicone fin. Then the momentum from the mixer spinning seems to evenly distribute the mix that would have otherwise needed a secondary spatula to fold in those lost ingredients. It’s great. Don’t expect it to squeegee things clean. It will evenly mix things for you.

Paint on bottom of beater chipped off the 3rd time I used it
I was excited to buy this beater on vacation sometime ago. We were then gone for 6 months and just had opportunity to use it now for the 3rd time. It seems to do a good job, but certainly need to use my shield when adding flour, etc. Today I noticed something white sticking out of one of my baked cookies. It didn't look like a possible egg shell and with further searching found out small pieces of the white paint had chipped off the bottom of the beater. That made me :(

Used correctly, works every time
This beater gently scrapes product from the sides of the bowl and returns it to the bottom. Yes, you still need to use a spatula to ensure everything is mixed but this makes it much easier. Almost every poor review states the beater doesn't fit the mixer (buy the correct one) or it chips and bags the bottom of the bowl. People, you must adjust the beater height using the set screw. Obviously, the beater won't chip on butter and flour so IT IS hitting the metal bowl. C'mon. Great product

Falling Apart
I received this as a gift, and loved it....until a few months later the rubber began to crack and peel away. Now there is a sticky residue along the crack in the rubber between the part that coats the frame and the flap that extends beyond the frame. This piece has been hand-washed after each use, and worked wonderfully to scrape the sides of the bowl while mixing, but I'm very disappointed in the quality. I expected more from the KitchenAid brand.

Doesn't fit the Artisan mixer
I bought this as a gift for my daughter. She had just gotten her new mixer and was excited to use the attachment since I love mine so much. However, it doesn't fit the Artisan tilt head mixer even though it's supposed to be for that model. My old flex edge beater fits both of our Artisan mixers. Could the new beater be defective? Isn't it a standard size? It's very frustrating. I can't recommend this product since it might not fit. I love the older version.

Paint chipping, but works great
The item works well and am otherwise happy with it. It does scrape the sides well, but does not scrape the center on the bottom of the bowl. However, the white coating is chipping off at the base, where it connects to the Kitchenaid. This worries me bc I obviously do not want paint chipping off into the food I am preparing.
