Better than I anticipated
Super happy with this purchase! I spent far too many hours researching different brands and different models of soundbars. Finally landed on this one and I could not be more pleased. The sound is loud and immersive. The bass rumbles my couch and puts you in the middle of the action. Voices are crystal clear, and the atmos effects are great.

Bass is good, but muddy bass is bad.
I am happy with the Bar 500 Mk2. I found the bass to be obstructive in many use cases where the 110 Hz to 250 Hz is too strong making a "muddy" base which is not ideal. JBL lovers (4311's) enjoy crisp, thumping kick pedal bass, but not well executed here. I know my way around an equalizer so I drop 110 Hz by -6 dB and keep 40 Hz at -1 Hz to de-muddy the bass. Level 3 is often too much bass for watching TV series where there is deep booming bass during normal conversational scenes on TV. The 3D effect is quite good, but hardly any pgm on streaming services have Dolby encoding. Only sources with Dolby coding are digital off the air channels, but they're playing news or 1980's sitcoms.

Not enough clarity at low volume
The system overall seems too biased towards bass. I bought it specifically in the hopes of being able to enhance voice quality in movies but the bass is too strong, overpowering voice levels. Additional to this the app does not have any equaliser presets which makes finding appropriate levels quite difficult and a bit of pot luck. The design is great, and it was really easy to get up and running and use, but you really need to pump the volume to get clarity and that comes at the expense of extreme bass that I don't think my neighbours will appreciate long term (even with bass at it lowest setting).

What can I say! I was amazed with this product, Packs a punch in compact size, and a 10" sub with excellent bass response!
If you live in a space that might be too tight for something bigger, this is a great solution, this will give you a lot of BANG FOR YOUR BUCK and possibly one of the best compact systems on the market right now.
An impressive output at 750 watts that won't fail to disappoint, The atmosphere performance surprised me the most and seems to offer a genuine feeling of whizzing past your head.

Experience cinema sound in your home
While waiting for the JBL soundbar to arrive, I had high expectations and hoped for the exceptional sound experience that typically accompanies JBL products.
And I wasn't disappointed. The JBL Bar 500MK2 arrived in sturdy packaging, perfectly protecting the treasure hidden within. With each step, it only got better. The perfectly designed soundbar blends seamlessly into its surroundings and will be a decorative addition to any TV wall.
The large 10-inch subwoofer promises the bass experience I've been waiting for. It might seem like a subwoofer this size would be a problem, but thanks to the wireless connection to the soundbar, we can place it anywhere in the room without compromising sound quality.
Installation is easy thanks to the simple instructions in the manual and the self-calibration option, which allows the soundbar to scan your room and adjust to deliver the best TV viewing experience. Within minutes of unboxing, I was enjoying powerful sound with deep bass thanks to Dolby Atmos®, DTS Virtual:X®, and MultiBeam™ 3.0.
The PureVoice 2.0 system optimizes all dialogue for clarity when you need it.
750W max output power provides powerful sound that will blow through the walls of your home, but even the minimum volume is enough to experience home cinema or listen to your favorite music, and thanks to the JBL One APP you can access and customize it from your phone.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice unit that delivers.This is a case of getting more than you paid for. A side by side with a more expensive unit may demonstrate shortcomings, but this thing sounds great. I’m talking playing music, not just as a sound bar for viewing movies. Very easy to set up, almost plug & play. There are a couple of steps, like calibrating for the acoustics of your room. Just a button on the remote & an app on your phone for instruction to complete the speaker setup. Multiple choices for connecting to your TV, including a USB connector (U.S. version only) should you have a source that isn’t Bluetooth capable. It is 5.1 with Dolby atmos & multi beam 3.0.

Thanks for your question. Our JBL Bar 500MK2 is a stand-alone closed system that comes with a single subwoofer, and it is not possible to add another subwoofer.

Thanks for your question. Yes, the 'PureVoice' setting can be enabled or disabled under the 'More Audio Settings' menu in the 'JBL One' application after our JBL Bar 500MK2 is selected in the app.

Can the soundbar be used without the subwoofer? Would it sound very much like the 300mk2?
Thank you for your inquiry. Our JBL Bar 300MK2 produces bass that's why it is not made with a subwoofer. If you use the JBL Bar 500MK2 without the subwoofer, the sound will not be the same as it will lack bass.
