Great question! The Garmin HRM 200 Heart Rate Monitor is built to withstand a variety of environmental conditions, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. However, it is not designed for pool or open-water swimming. Hope this helps^RR

Does this count how much calories you have burned?

Hi there. It does not independently record or store calories burned; it is a real-time heart rate transmitter that sends data to a paired device. It lacks offline storage to calculate and save daily activity metrics like steps or calories on its own. Your paired Garmin device uses the heart rate data sent by the strap to calculate calories during a workout. We trust this helps with your query ~JB
