A genuine significant improvement to the Virtuo system.
We've been accustomed to the Virtuo Plus machines for some years now and they were great. We recently started a new subscription with the all new Virtuo Up machine and I couldn't be happier. I should say that I don't usually bother doing reviews but I thought I should in this case because Nespresso has really kicked a goal with their new machine. The quality of the coffee extraction is superior to earlier Vitruo machines. The coffee just tastes better and has superior crema to that produced by earlier machines. This is partly due to the new "coffee creations" button that reduces the amount of water put through the pod while also adjusting the extraction parameters for each pod.... (it doesn't JUST reduce the water level) The pod is still fully extracted but with less water. There are plenty of coffee shops that simply can't come close to what a Virtuo Up machine can produce... and with no skill from me!
The pods now spin from a vertical position rather than horizontally which leads into another advantage with this new design. The Virtuo Up is able to stay clean internally much better than earlier Virtuo Machines such as the Plus, Next and Pop. The cleaning system is totally new which leads to an unfair criticism I have read. Some people complain that dirty coffee water lands in the collection tray with the spent pods.... but this is exactly what should happen. After making, say, four coffees.... it's good to tip the water and pods from the collection tray into the sink. A quick splash of clean water rinses the tray out then you're ready for coffee next time. It's easy... and the old coffee grounds and water are not building up inside the machine. Without this function, any automatic coffee machine eventually starts to produce more bitter coffee as the months go by..... no matter how often you run the clean process or the de-scale process. The Virtuo Up just has a better designed system for consistent good coffee flavour without a gradual cruddy build up within the machine that affects taste.
There's a blue button function for running clean water through the machine which neatly fills up an aero chino.... so I do that after every session... so easy and convenient. Just put the empty (dirty) aero chino under the coffee delivery and then press the blue clean button. Enjoy your coffee while the machine does it's clean.
Nespresso has made a genuine improvement with the new UP on a number of levels. I'm grateful and very happy with it. Highly recommended.
