This was installed in our house when we built it. It was new then four years ago. It recently started to make a bad noise and after removing it and stripping it down I found that one of the riveted-in retaining straps was broken at the one end, allowing the rotating hammer to impact the inside of the grinding screen. This appears to be poor design (I am a mechanical engineer), but of course the machine is out of warranty.

I previously had gone though 2 Robinhood scrapeaters in 4 years and they are totally useless. If you considering a wate disposal unit, spend the money on an insinkerator, excellent quality.

Loving my Insinkerator
Great service at Northlink Harvey Norman. Always greeted by their top salesman who has a great memory for faces. I ordered my Insinkerator 56 online & picked it up the next day without any hassles. I had it fitted & it's brilliant. Very quite. Easy to access if something slips into the drum that shouldn't be there & best of all, it demolishes everything I throw at it with ease. Even though I didn't get the larger model I find the #56 model works like a charm in my kitchen. I love it.
