Types of Dishwashers

  • Freestanding dishwashers: The plug-and-play option; these slide right into standard kitchens without modifying your cabinetry. Ideal for rentals or quick replacements.
  • Built-under dishwashers: Designed to fit neatly under your benchtop while keeping the front door and control panel visible. Typically comes in stainless steel, white or black to match your oven and fridge.
  • Integrated dishwashers: Concealed behind cabinetry panels to blend with surrounding cabinets. Choose from fully integrated models with hidden controls or semi-integrated models with visible controls.
  • DishDrawer dishwashers: Fisher & Paykel's Drawer-style models make it easier to load without bending down. Available in single or double-drawer designs so you can run small loads independently.

Is it worth buying a more energy-efficient dishwasher?

Yes, if you use your dishwasher regularly. More energy-efficient models use less electricity and water, which can help reduce running costs over time. Look for 4 or more Energy Stars and a 4.5 to 5-star Water Rating

How often should I clean my dishwasher?

Clean your dishwasher about once a month. This includes wiping the door seals, cleaning the filter, checking for obstructions on the spray arms, wiping down interior walls and tub, and running a cleaning cycle.

Which is better cutlery basket vs. top cutlery tray?

Comes down to your personal preference. A traditional cutlery basket makes it easy to load the basket, and it's easier to fit large serving utensils. A top-loading cutlery tray gives you more space on the lower rack but requires careful unloading if you have sharp knives.

What is the difference between a basic and a premium dishwasher?

Paying a bit more gets you three major updates: quiet operation, better drying, and internal flexibility. A premium dishwasher (like Miele, high-end Bosch and Fisher & Paykel) typically offers quieter operation, better drying performance, and more flexible loading options. Features like advanced drying technology, adjustable baskets, extra sound insulation, or a dedicated Quiet Wash cycle can make everyday use more convenient.
